Cubist Project in Digital Design

After my students have learned about shapes, textures and feel a little comfortable with experimenting, I had them do this project.

1.     Google cubism and abstract art and look over what they look like and the composition of the image.  You will be creating your own cubist art representing your face in an abstract mode.2.     Open Adobe Photoshop CS33.     Open your face picturea.     Be careful not to save any of the following changes you make4.     Select a part of your face, i.e. eyes, mouth, nose, etca.     use  a marquee tool shape of your choice (ex. Rectangular marquee too)5.     Crop the picture to the selected part of your facea.     Image menu, cropb.     Save this image as a Photoshop image and name it the part of the face, i.e. eyes.psdc.      Resize face parts to fit each part should be no more than 1 inch in width                                                              i.      Image menu, Image size, change size in inches.                                                            ii.      Save each part as a psdd.     Leave these open on your workspace6.     Repeat steps 2 4 until you have 5 pieces of your face saved.  Leave the files open on your workspace.a.     Remember dont save over your original face image.7.     Open a new image filea.     Select Default Photoshop Size, RGB color, 150 pixels, transparent backgroundb.     Save it as The Cubist Project.psd8.     Add shapesa.     You need at least 3 shapes but can use more to fill your image.  Use more than one shape.                                                              i.      Fill your shapes with color but not on separate layersb.     Remember you must fill the 7X5 image size so that it has a balance look.  Fill your entire canvas size of 7X5 inches.9.     Insert your face pieces abstractly over your shapesa.     Before you insert your face parts make sure you resize the parts which is done in the separate image files you cut apart.b.     If you insert a piece of your face and it is too large or too small, you need to remove it and go back to that parts image to resize it.c.      To insert face pieces into the new image:                                                              i.      Select the move tool in the tool bar,                                                             ii.      Make sure both the face part and your Cubist Project file is open.                                                          iii.      click and hold the face part you want                                                         iv.      drag over to where you want it in your Cubist Project and let go.10.   Remember you will be using layers.  Each face part you add will be on a new layer.  If you want to edit that part you need to go to the layer it is in.  HINT:  write down your layers and parts on a paper11.   Add file info data the name, the author, keywords, copyright date, description12.   When you are finished with your image same both in a Photoshop and a Jpeg format.
